It’s home to breathtaking churches, beautiful Talavera pottery, and some of the best regional food in Mexico.

CULTURAL HIGHLIGHTS
We’ve been to many cities throughout Mexico and the city of Puebla is one of the most historically and culturally significant we’ve explored thus far. Aside from its impressive Baroque architecture, rich gastronomy, and Talavera pottery, Puebla is ground zero for the annual Cinco de Mayo celebrations.
Learn About Talavera Pottery
Of all the souvenirs you can buy in Puebla, one item in particular is emblematic of Puebla State – Talavera Poblana. It refers to a Mexican pottery tradition that originated in Spain and has become deeply rooted in the cultural identity of Puebla.
Awesome Museums to Visit
The historic centre of downtown Puebla isn’t that big but it’s home to a surprising number of museums showcasing modern art, religious art, archaeological finds, and even vintage cars. Amparo Museum is our favorite but do check out our list of the most interesting museums in Puebla for more recommendations.
The Most Beautiful Churches
Like museums, the city of Puebla is home to a surprising number of churches. No wonder it was called Puebla de los Ángeles! Puebla Cathedral, Templo de Santo Domingo, and Ex-convento de San Francisco are the most impressive but do check out our list of the most beautiful churches in Puebla for more recommendations.

PUEBLOS MAGICOS

Visit Puebla’s Pueblos Magicos
Visiting the pueblos magicos of Puebla is a great way to go beyond the city and experience the less traveled parts of Puebla State. Cuetzalan and Tlatlauquitepec, located in the mountainous Sierra Norte de Puebla region, are two of my favorites, followed by Chignahuapan and Tetela de Ocampo.
Discover Cholula
Thanks to its proximity to the city of Puebla, Cholula is by far the most visited pueblo magico in Puebla. Like Atlixco, it can easily be visited on a day trip from downtown Puebla. Its most emblematic attraction is a striking orange church that sits on top of a monumental pyramid and archaeological site.
